Friday, November 15

6C Parents and Students,

This week we started our work on how to write a great story, by dissecting the elements that make up engaging fiction.  Using the Empowering Writers program, we started by looking at the four ways you can write an interesting beginning; with action, dialogue, thought/ question, and sound effects.  Next week we will move from finding and sharing examples of these story starters into writing our own beginnings.

We have been reviewing division and estimation this week in math.  Please look for the JUMP quiz coming home, next week.

To conclude our look at the Provincial Government, the students have been creating a Flip-Up Legislature.  We identified 14 different positions or procedures important to running the Alberta Legislature and using the format of a flip-up book, we created "flip-ups" explaining these 14 parts. Students need to include four facts as well as a relevant picture for each. Students have information in their Google Drive called Flip-Up Legislature and Provincial Government Review Part 1.

We look forward to seeing you all at the Student-Led Conferences next Thursday evening or Friday morning.

Have a great weekend,

Ms. Blyth
