Good Afternoon Students and Parents,
We have been learning about creating a
"T" table to identify a pattern and how to write a rule for a series
of numbers this week (i.e 2, 6, 18 Pattern Rule: Start at 2 and multiply by
3 each time). We also learned how variables are used in algebra and
how they substitute for a number (i.e n + 5 = 8, so n = 3). We will be
having a small quiz next Thursday to check the students' understanding of these
concepts.
To kick off our unit on Local Government, the
students have been drawing their own city maps in groups of 3 or 4. Each
city needs to be aware of residential, commercial and industrial land use, and
must also include essential buildings and services including schools,
hospitals, public transportation, recycling/ compost facilities, etc.
Next week we will be looking at city bylaws and how property taxes are
collected and used to fund city services.
In Science, we will be looking at our Trees
and Forests unit. See our website for all of the unit outcomes and the
study guide.
We’re welcoming Ms. Dykema, a student-teacher
from Ambrose University to our classroom. She will be in our classroom
until the end of September, then returning for 6 weeks at the beginning of
January.
Have a great weekend!
Ms. Blyth
